Why, hello there...

I'm Solén, a Haitian-American born and raised in South Florida, specifically Broward County, which might as well be its own state, honestly lol.  After graduating from Florida State University, I've been navigating the "real world" while trying to figure out my path as someone in my early twenties.

When I'm not working, you'll find me playing with my cats (Amaris and Marcel), practicing yoga, working out, watching anime, listening to music or engaging podcasts, studying languages, or losing myself in a good book.

Why Start a Blog?

My closest friends, roommates, and co-workers know me as someone who often begins conversations with something unexpected or even outlandish. I enjoy surprising people, catching them off guard, yet intriguing them enough that they want me to elaborate.

When I explain my thinking, I create space for the contradictions we all carry, humanizing both myself and others by showcasing the nuances of life beyond simple black and white thinking.

There's a depth within me that I'm eager to share with you all. I love to start conversations because it stimulates me in being able to experience others approach in handling situations that I probably would do differently. It helps me understand the rationale behind human behavior, while also challenging myself that my way of doing things doesn’t mean that it’s the only way. Hell, even the right way to be frank.

My approach might sometimes be wrong, but through this blog, I want to explore topics that interest me and provide commentary that sparks conversation. My intention is simple: to encourage you to stay tricky, be open minded, and get curious.

Why Tricky Sol?

Sol is short for my name, Solén, and serves as a homophone for "soul," fitting, as one of my spiritual purposes is to understand my soul regardless of the environment I inhabit. It's honestly a work in progress.

I'm a listener of "Around the Way Curls," a podcast featuring two women from Philly who explore both the profound and the profane in their personal lives and in our society's political and pop culture realms. When discussing situations requiring nuance, they frequently say "it's tricky because..." This resonates deeply with me.

As a consistent listener and someone on a journey of self-understanding, I've realized that to truly know and understand me requires nuance. I'm not a black-or-white kind of person, and I don't believe in playing fair in an unfair world.

To be an innovator, creator, and doing things that have never been done before, one needs to be able to think outside of the box, have unconventional approaches in executing and materializing their dreams/ goals/ purpose in this universe. This is what I aim to do and I’d like to share my thoughts and development of strategic approach with you all.

I would like for you all to be witnesses of this particular side of me and be a part of my growth in becoming my ideal self. Be my tribe. Hence, Tricky Sol.

I may come off  “tricky”  but the intent behind it all is well meant and hopefully as I open myself in showing the nuances, it may reveal your own and encourage you to stay tricky, be open minded, and get curious.
